On August 24, 2005 at 11:00 am, hurricane pan hit the Bahamas. Another devistating natural dister is hurricane Katrina that started in flordia and grew threw Washington and lousiana. Hurricane Katrina hit on Thursday august 25, 2005 at 3:30 pm at category 1 with speed at 74 mph. It eventually became stronger and stronger becoming category 3 at 130 mph. 14 people died and there was $14 million in damage. People prepared for this hurricane by giving out water, pop tarts, and flashlights.
I thought this video was very intresting and showed lots about how people work through hurricane Katrina. I could tell it was a lot of work to clean up, but with help for many worker or first responders, things turned out not so bad.

ReplyDeleteSummary: Hurricane Katrina was a very vicious hurricane that started west of Florida starting as a catogory 1 hurricane It winds up and forms and firstly hits Florida making extreme flooding and causing 61 thousand deaths and 500,000 thousand homeless and causing over 500k buildings to just crumble to the the ground. After hitting land a hurricane is most of the time supposed to die out because hitting land weakens it's energy. But Katrina did not do this she went over the land and right into the gulf of Mexico which is very warm water which is what the hurricane needs after gathering warm water winds speed up and Katrina turns into a category 2 hurricane. Reports show that it's heading straight for new Orleans. So in less than 72 hours it's going to hit there. In the process of getting there hurricane Katrina turned into a category 3 hurricane when her winds speed up to 115mph now new Orleans or in deep trouble
Thoughts on video: I think this video was very well organized and i like how people combine there forces to try to help the people that are going to get hit with the hurricane they all come together and help that was probably the best thing in the video and the events were pretty okay it explains how powerful Katrina came and how the momentum of hurricanes can inflict on city's and human beings.

ReplyDeleteIn this video hurricane Katerina is coming. First The hurricane hits southern Florida, causing lots of damage as a slow cat.1 hurricane. Then makes its way into the gulf of Mexico, heading towards New Orleans. Most people in New Orleans don't care at first that the hurricane is coming. The FEMA helps the Louisiana and Mississippi government prepare for the hurricane landfall. These states call states of emergency, suspending civil liberty's,They also send out costal guard's as well.
I think that everyone should leave eminently. I also think that people should help those that cant leave or pay for food or damage.

In the video "inside hurricane Katrina" it is mostly about how hurricane Katrina formed and how it became stronger. Also what it needs to get stronger.
My thoughts about the event is that it is very distructive because level three hurricanes are very strong and can cause a lot of damage because hurricane Katrina killed 61,000 people.

Summary: "Inside Hurricane Katrina" is about what happened during the Hurricane Katrina. Many people died during this and some people don't even know if their kids are either alive or dead. The flood waters surge over the levees engulfing the city. There was 61,000 deaths, 380,000 injured and sick as well as 500,00 homeless. Many buildings were destroyed during this period of time. The response team uses the time they have before they hurricane reaches land by gathering truck loads of supplies. Many groups of Emergency response teams strategized about what to do.
Thoughts: I think that Hurricane Katrina affected everyone in that area because of what they had to deal with, from not eating for 3 days to having a close family member or friend lost/killed during this tragic event. I think that Hurricane Katrina is one of the deadliest hurricanes in history aside, hurricanes can come at any moment and if you're not prepared, you're gone in no time.

The video is about hurricane Katrina, one of the most deadliest hurricanes in modern time. It was heading towards the state Louisiana. It could lead to 6,100 deaths, 3,800 people sick or injured, 5,000 homeless people, 5,000 buildings destroyed, and 1,000,000 evacuates. It went up to a category 3 hurricane, it's wind speed is now greater than 74 miles per hour. Making it one of the most dangerous hurricanes out there. I think that all of the people preparing for hurricane Katrina are very smart, even though many things were destroyed. They still tried to do the very best they could to keep everyone safe and happy. I do think, though that the system could improve so there is less damage done to the area. I felt very upset when I saw that people didn't even know if their family members were alive or not. That's very hard to go through. That's what I think about the video.

Hurricane Katrina has destroyed many properties that people use. They cried over it, and they were worried that one of their family members is lost. As Katrina pass day by day, it got way stronger. On the Saffir Simpson Scale, it went from 1 - 3 in a few days. It made it very scary and people that were in FIFA and government didn't know what to bring with them. So, they had to find a way to live for a couple of days to stay away from Katrina.
The Katrina was very scary, I was really sad that it cost this many lives. I hope next time they will try to improve the way of helping people and supporting them when another hurricane strikes.

ReplyDeleteHurricane Katrina was the most dangerous hurricane in modern time. About 61,00 people died in the Hurricane Pam, and 500,000 people were homeless because of the homes destroyed. 1,000,000 people evacuated from the Hurricane Zone. Without the S.O.S Washington takes charge for supplying water. On August 24th,2005 in the Central Bahamas had heavy and high winds in the Atlantic ocean forming a tropical storm 38 mph.
A response team helps supply water, flashlights, and pop-tarts for emergencies. On August 25th, 2005 the Katrina hits to 74 mph wind speed into a Category 1 Hurricane. Katrina heads to Florida swirling winds were high. On August 26th,2005 Katrina gets more powerful to a Category 2. The Red Cross and the Salivation Army is working its hardest to help supply needs for people like shelters.
On August 26th, 2005 Katrina is collecting more energy from the warm water. Before the hurricane hits, states asks the federal government to be involved like "FEMA". In the video it said that Katrina is in the path of New Orleans. On August 27th, 2005 Katrina will hut land in Buras Louisiana. On August 27th, 2005 Katrina turns to a Category 3 Hurricane

A) My summary on the video is that hurricane Katrina is very dangerous. She hit Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi. She was a category 4 on the chart. Many people were killed and injured. Many people such as FEMA gets involved to help people in the area.
B) I use to think that hurricanes weren't that dangerous. But after seeing this I can tell that a hurricane can take someone life. I also thought that many people are invoked in situations such as theses.

A) The video as about how Hurricane Katrina was one of the most deadliest hurricanes of modern time, it shows the aftermath of the hurricanes and how the people are being sheltered but some didn't even eat; and people being saved after words. Then it shows about a hurricane called Pam and people researching it, it also cause 61,000 deaths, injured and sick 680,000, the homeless 500,000, buildings destroyed 500,000, and 1,000,000 people evacuated. Then the video explained how they planned for warnings and preparation, and shows how it gets stronger with each categories. It also shows how it re-energized by passing the gulfs of mexico. It again shows where it goes to it and what category it is and how red cross helped people, then about New Orleans. Over time Katrina gets stronger, with more destruction and wind speed. And the preparations of Neweasyana.
B)I think the events when the hurricanes hit was tradging because people lost family and belongings. And that the whole city gets damaged big time

In the video we can see that hurricane Katrina is the main focus. It showed how it traveled all the way from the Bahamas to Louisiana using the energy from the gulf of Mexico. It showed how it transformed into a category 3 in under 5 days. The winds that were given off, were very destructive toward the places who experienced it. Over 60,000 died, 380,000 injured, 500,000 homeless, 500,000 and buildings destroyed.
Was much damage caused to the Bahamas since hurricane Katrina wasn't there
as much as the other places.

This was all basicly of how Katrina was a category 1-5 hurricane and destroyed many homes and places and buissneses and killed hundreds of people. It caused mass chaos of people trying to escape the destroyed homes and flooded streets before Katrina hit with its trafic and people escaping. They had another tragic hurricane that hit New Orleans and it was another hurricane that they were prepared for this time.
I also think that they could have prepared more food and water and shelter further inland. Plus they could have. Had been more prepared for the hurricane and left before even though it's like leaving your life and childhood memories.

Katrina Part 1 is a video about one of the most catastrophic hurricanes, Katrina. This hurricane was one of the most destructive hurricanes in 2005. It costed many people's life and cause major natural disasters. It started as a tropical storm but quickly turned into a deadly hurricane. Not many people payed attention to the hurricane warnings and that caused the loss of many lives. Katrina was categorized as a dangerous 3 hurricane.
I believe that if people had taken the hurricane warnings more seriously they would've saved many lives and not much damage would've been done. Hurricane Katrina was a deadly hurricane in 2005 and I think it's will be hard to forget about it.

ReplyDeleteThis video was about how metrologist started searching and tracking down the hurricane and its path. When they saw the winds of the storm increasing, they started preparing and getting food and water to survive the hurricane. After its first target hurricane katrina was at first a category 1 hurricane, but it grew stronger over a body of warm water that energized it to a category 2 hurricane. They started making a escape plan, and before the video ended, it mentioned hurricane Katrina grew to a category 3 hurricane. I didn't think that it was possible for the hurricane to grow stronger. I thought it will only grow weaker.

This video is about hurricane Katrina. It shows the events that happened first, starting as a tropical storm to when it became a category three. It also shows what first responders do to help others get ready. I think it is cool that the hurricane stop to collect energy to make itself stronger, also that it awesome that even though it moves slower then other storms it pack a big punch.

Hurricane Katrina hit in multiple places causing various amounts of destruction. On August, 2005 satellites revealed that there was a tropical storm. In Florida there was a warning, but no one was prepared for what was going to happen. On August 25, 2004 Katrina's winds reached 74 mph, making it a category 1. That same day it caused 14 deaths and 60 million dollars worth of destruction, for a category 1. At one point her winds were up too 113 mph. Based on what I watched Katrina was one of the most destructive hurricanes, even as a category one. It caused mass destruction, and it sadly killed, and injured many people.

Many people have lost everything they had in Hurricane Katrina. People were killed or severely injured. Millions of lives were affected by this disastrous storm. The Louisiana government has conducted a plan in case another hurricane occurs.
Question: What category did hurricane Katrina reach by the end of part 1?

Summary- Hurricane Katrina was a devastating hurricane. Its category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson Scale was very strong. Her winds packed a big punch on property. Its power was high for being a category 1 hurricane. This shows that when it reached category 2 it would be twice as devastating. Hurricane Katrina is one of the most catastrophichurricane in modern history.
My thoughts- Because of how slow it was, it had a chance to pick up warm water which boosted its power. It is a devastating natural disaster.

Katrina caused lots of damage to Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana, It started off as a level 1 hurricane when it hit Florida, but went at a speed of 8 mph so it caused great damage. Usually hurricanes die out but because Florida is located near the Gulf of Mexico it re- energized and turned into a level 3 hurricane. Louisiana is a state that's below the level of the Gulf. When the hurricane hit it could break down the walls that keep the water out because some of them are old and need to be repaired.
Its great that we have so much help with rebuilding and protecting people when hurricanes come. But we don't have all the resources we need and many people die. That's why I think we need to improve on the resources we have and have even more people to help out.

Summary: in the video Inside Hurricane Katrina Part 1, it talks about how hurricane Katrina form and hit United States. On August 24, a tropical storm name Katrina hit Florida with the wind speed of 38 mph. On the 25th, the wind speed reaches 78 mph, which now become a category 1 hurricane. On the 26th, hurricane Katrina now become a category 3. As the hurricane hit Florida, Red Cross and the army prepare shelters and supply in case the hurricane will hit Louisiana. After done hitting Florida, Katrina regains her strength through the Gulf of Mexico and is targeting Louisiana. The governments are planing an attack on the hurricane.
My thought on the event is that people in United States that are most likely near the coast, will have to be worry about the warning that a hurricane might come. That way, they will be more careful of the hurricane and be prepare.

Summary: Hurricane Katrina was a dangerous hurricane. On August 24, 2005, the hurricane began as a category 1 hurricane. It still caused a lot of damage, It first began as a tropical storm and the hurricane center in Florida, said that there are going to be hurricane conditions. There was a death toll of 61,000. There was 1,000,000 people that were being evacuated from the Florida area. It passed through Florida and then came back to the Gulf of Mexico. It gained a lot of power and it became a category 2 hurricane. On August 26, 2005, Katrina became a category 2 hurricane, but it may become a category 3 hurricane in the next 24 hours. Katrina was headed for Louisiana. On August 26, 2005, Katrina becomes a category 3 hurricane. Hurricane Katrina then hits Baton Rouge and people then need emergency.
Comment: Katrina costed a lot of money to repair and Katrina was very dangerous.
a) The video mainly talked about how hurricane Katrina is able to cause serious damage even if it is a category 1 hurricane. Katrina left half a million people homeless half a million homes destroyed 61,000 people died and 380,000 people injured. When hurricane Katrina hits south Florida it becomes a category one hurricane. When it passes Florida it becomes a category two hurricane then three after 24 hours. New Orleans worship hurricanes by naming a drink hurricane.
ReplyDeleteB) I was surprised about all of the damage Katrina could do even if it is a category one hurricane.

ReplyDeleteSummary- In the video it talks about how hurricane Katrina formed over the Carribean islands. Hurricane Katrina was a tropical storm before it turned into a category 1 hurricane and before hitting Florida. After hurricane Katrina hit over Florida it lost a lot of power, but it quickly regained it after hitting over the warm water of the gulf of mexico.
Thoughts- I think that people could be told not to panic when they issue a hurricane warning so there is less panic and chaos and people can leave efficiently and safely.

Summary: Hurricane Katrina began out as a very powerful category 1 hurricane moving very slowly causing much damage. Disaster recovery companies worked hard to prepare for the hurricane but even when it was a category one killed 14 people. It passed through florida and lost only a bit of power which it soon regained. Katrina went to a category dive in less than a week. Thus made hurricane katrina a devastating time.

ReplyDeleteSummary: In the video the man was talking about hurricane Katrina. He was talking about how difficult it was to survive a situation like that. He was also talking about how to survive a situation like that and what to do about it including the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Hurricane Katrina is a natural disaster that the saffir Simpson scale sensed to be a 3. The windspeeds killed 14 people and injured many. Storm surges flooded many parts of Miami Florida and destroyed over half 1 million homes. Hurricane Katrina is a very dangerous disaster that leaves a lot of destroyed homes, buildings etc.
Thoughts: while I was watching the video all I was thinking about was why do people live in an environment that gets a lot of hurricanes and know the dangers and risks?
Jessica Cao HR:3-216 a) Summary: Hurricane Katrina is one of the deadliest hurricanes of modern time and has destroyed shelters, starved people, injured/killed people and separated them from their families. In the coast of Flordia, since she's now in category 1, her wind speed is 74 mph and she damaged Flordia's homes. She moves over states at only 8 mph and thats rare since other hurricane takes longer than that. Then became a category 2 and now the wind speed is 130 mph and shes becoming a monster becoming into a category 3. In New Orleans in Bourbon Street, a french quarter honor hurricanes. Now she is a category 3 approaching Buras Louisiana with a storm surge. b) Hurricane Katrina sure is scary and very destructive. It has caused people pain and suffer for the damages it has caused since its reached to a category 5 hurricane which is really power.

Katrina was powerful, but only went 8 mph unlike others that go from 15-20 mph. After Katrina headed for west of Florida and heads for around Lousiana. People like the Red Cross help with supplies, etc.

Hurricanes can have predictable paths, but the amount of destruction and devastation is sometimes overwelming. Hurricanes leave behind devastation as survivors are left without shelter, also without food or water.
people were warned about hurricane Katrina 36 hours ahead of time, at 3:30 PM hurricane Katrina's wind speed reaches 74 mph classifying it as a category 1 hurricane,
at this catergory, Katrina is able to do damage to trees and other structures. Category 5 can cause extreme damage to anything in it's path. At 6:30 PM Katrina reaches the coast, resulting in 14 deaths and already causes massive amounts of damage, costing $460,000,000 to repair, the reason why Katrina caused so much damage is because of it's speed, as most hurricanes move at 15 mph, Katrina only moved at 8 mph exposing anything in the area to an extended period of damage. Most hurricanes lose energy on land because they need warm water to continue, but Katrina had been able to resupply once it reached the gulf of mexico, causing it to become even more powerful and reach category 2.
The video seems to show the destruction both caused during and after a hurricane hits. Hurricane Katrina is the main focus in the video, katrina ravaged Florida as it continued to grow in intensity, later reaching other citys. Before a hits emergency services like FEMA and red cross, all have to work together to create a strategy for bringing in supplies and evacuation.
Jahlisse Bruton 3-217
ReplyDeletea) The video was about the preparation and watch of hurricane Katrina. When Katrina already hit land and continued to move west, she picked up strength from the gulf of Mexico because it contains water that is above 80 degrees. The watch team tracked the hurricanes development and (at the end of the video) had declared it to be a category 3 hurricane. The watch team worked together with state police and a Wal-Mart employee to gather much needed things for when the storm hit.
b) This video to me was surprisingly interesting. I liked how it showed actual footage of after the storm hit and during. It helped me grasp how it actually was during the storm.

Shepherd/Jahne, Hr:208. I think it's very sad to know that so many people have died, been injured, lost their homes, lost their families, all because of hurricane Katrina. And some of those victims are probably still struggling as of now. But, i think it's pretty cool how FEMA, shelter homes, the police, food processors, and even Walmart are already getting in "battle positions"for when Katrina appears. My question is why the citizens didn't move away from Katrina's path, or any where near her path, in the first place? would that just be a waste of time if Katrina was going to hit them no matter where they are?
ReplyDeleteThe hurricane Katrina video was about how it started in Bermuda and moved through Florida to New Orleans. When it got to New Orleans it was a category 3 hurricane. To help people get ready for the hurricane and clean up after, the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) is called in. The first responders meet regularly before Katrina comes to make sure that everyone is ready. Katrina hit New Orleans very hard and destroyed lots of property. People did not have food or water for more than 3 days. People died and many people lost their homes.

Summary: Hurricane Katrina was a very deadly hurricane that hit Florida and Georfia. On those days many lives were taken. Cooperations tried to supply people with the necessary needs. In the video, Hurricane Katrina started out as a category 1 and ended up as a category 3.
My thoughts: It is very sad to think about what happened on those days. Many innocent lives were taken. I didn't realize how strong and deadly Hurricane Katrina actually was until I watched that video.

This video talks about people dying and suffering. Also, there was another hurricane that hi before Katrina and that killed many people as well. My thoughts on this video is that it is very sad to watch all those people dying and them not being able to do nothing about it.

Hurricane Katrina struck people's homes. Houses were destroyed, children are missing, people are stuck for days without food or clean water. Louisiana were soon to be hit by hurricane Katrina. It had injured and killed many, or thousands of people. Washington set out to take charge and tried to supply the people who were struck with food and water. On August 24th, there was a hurricane forming, the beginning of Hurricane Katrina. On August 25th, Hurricane Katrina becomes a catergory 1. Hurricane Katrina slowly gained more strength over the days, eventually becoming a catergory 5.
My thoughts: I was horrified. People were starving and stuck for days out there when they were hit by the natural disasters caused by Hurricane Katrina. They needed help, and urgently.

my comments on this video is that I was shocked at how much people got hurt those couple of days. one event that stood out to me was how many peoples houses were under water and how many people died. to me that was sad. and no one said no didn't try to help because right when they say it they took charge with the red cross helping with food and e.c.t
