Fishbowl

You will be using a fishbowl strategy to discuss an essential question.
There will be an inside circle and outside circle in this discussion (you will be placed in one of these). Below are the rules and directionsFishbowl directions:

1. Inside circle: facing each other and discussing the essential question, using evidence from the text (your notes or graphic organizer)

2. Outside circle: actively listening; join the hot seat

Empty ‘hotseat’ for those in the outer circle who really want to jump in to make a contribution and then leave.


Fishbowl participants’ rules:

Inside circle
Talk to each other, not the teacher
Refer to evidence from the text to support your ideas.
Ask questions if you do not understand what someone has said.
Raise your hands to speak.
Don’t interrupt.
Don’t put down the ideas of another student.

Outside circle
Listen actively
Join hot seat and wait for signal to start talking
